Utica Police make arrest in January bar homicide
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police have made an arrest in regard to the first city homicide of the year.
Police said that Antwuan J. March, 21, of Utica was arrested Wednesday, July 28, 2010 and charged with second-degree murder in regard to a fatal shooting on January 2, 2010 at Geno's Tavern on James Street. Umar Khadafy Abdur Rahman, 27, of Utica, died after he was shot at the bar around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, January 2. Upon arrival, police located Rahman bleeding. He was treated on scene by the Utica Fire Department and sent to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The shooting had remained under investigation ever since. The bar had lost its liquor license on May 26. At the time, the State Liquor Authority stated that the bar had its license cancelled at the meeting, and describes a cancellation as "terminating the license, but does not ban the licensee from applying for a license for two years." The bar is listed as being owned by John Sigbieny. Police said Antwuan March was indicted by an Oneida County Grand Jury on a murder charge earlier this week. Armed with the grand jury indictment police located March at a house on Chestnut Street in Utica, and taken to Oneida County Court for arraignment. |
