Utica Police officer charged with DWI at Canadian border

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica Police officer was arrested for DWI near the Canadian border earlier this month.

Police are not releasing many details, but we're told Officer John Abel was arrested as he was crossing the Rainbow Bridge.

According to published reports, Abel is suspended without pay.

The Observer Dispatch reports Abel and another officer were in Niagara Falls for police training.

We've also learned that they were in a city-owned vehicle.

An investigation into the matter continues.
