Utica Police still looking for second suspect in Amazing Deli & Grocery robberies

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police say one of the two suspects believed to have robbed the same Utica store twice in less than a week, is behind bars.

17 year old Justice Jones of Thomas St. in Utica is charged with three counts of 1st degree robbery.  Two of the counts are for the two robberies at the Amazing Deli & Grocery on William St. in Utica and the third count is for a robbery at the store called Karl's on Sunset Ave. back on January 28th.

Police say Jones and another young person robbed the Amazing Deli & Grocery Thursday night just before the store was closing at 9:00 P.M.., and also robbed the store six days earlier on Friday, January 31st, also right around the 9:00 P.M. closing time.

Amazing Deli & Grocery owner Sam Zahar and his cousin were in the store when the two young robbers came in Thursday night, and Zahar says the one suspect pointing a gun left the store after seeing potential customers pull up in a vehicle, leaving his partner inside.

Zahar says after he was robbed last Friday, he went out and bought some new camera equipment, and those cameras captured every second of Thursday night's robbery.

The video shows when that second suspect tried to leave, Zahar locked the door and he and his cousin didn't let him leave, and ultimately used whatever means they could to subdue the young man until police arrived three minutes later.

If you have any information on who the second suspect might be, you are asked to call Utica Police at (315) 223-3510.
