Utica Zoo receives special gift from Toyota

By SPENCER DAVIDSON

YORKVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Employees and habitants of the Utica Zoo flocked to Steet Toyota-Scion on Commercial Drive, Thursday, to receive a very special gift.

The Zoo, who competed in the "100 Cars for Good" contest in the fall, won a brand new 2014 Toyota Prius from the contest that was presented to them at the dealership.

The contest was held as a way for people to vote for their favorite local non-profit organizations who were in need of a new set of wheels. Voters were able to pick their local organization through Toyota's Facebook page from October 1st-November 19th, 2013.

The Mohawk Valley rallied behind the Zoo in order to help them to become one of just 100 organizations nationwide to win a new car, and the Zoo is ready to show their thanks and put it to good use.

"We're going to use it as a partial zoomobile so that we can continue to take even more animals out of the zoo to folks who can't come, like we go to nursing homes and other organizations and child friendly places," said Andria Heath, Executive Director of the Utica Zoo. "We'll also use it to really represent the zoo and Toyota, and we'll take it to meetings.

"So if you see us driving towards you just smile because this community was really instrumental in us being able to have this car."

In addition to winning one of the "100 Cars for Good," the Utica Zoo is also celebrating a very special year with its 100th anniversary rapidly approaching.
