Utica firefighters raise money for MDA
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica firefighters are lining the streets with their boots off Friday to help out a great cause.
It's all part of the department's annual Boot Drive to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Firefighters were standing at the corner of several intersections throughout the city Friday in hopes of collecting enough cash from drivers to fill their empty boots. Plus, each year they sponsor a child that gets to hang out with them and that helps spur them to raise even more money than last year. "They're wonderful people," UFD Firefighter Guy Gazilli. "So strong. And it's nice to be able to help them out. It's one day out of the year for us and the motorists try not to hit us in the middle of the road...and we appreciate that, but they're very good about it." So if you're heading out to lunch, or even on your way home from work keep some spare change handy. They'll be out until 6 p.m. Friday night. |
