Utica gets American Legion Baseball Tournament through 2020

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - For the past three years, the New York State American Legion Baseball Tournament has been at Murnane Field.

But on Monday, it was announced that our region will continue to host the event through 2020. The tournament director calls it an honor, but also a responsibility, and he hopes the Mohawk Valley will step up to make the visiting teams and fans feel welcome.

"Every year, this tournament -- based on what we did last year -- is going to bring a million dollars in revenue," said Mike Macchione, tournament director. "Our expectation, and i"m certainly sure everyone in this room's, would be to grow that number larger."

Games start on July 30 and run through Aug. 2. Fireworks are planned for the night of the first games. Eight teams are competing in the upcoming tournament.
