Utica hosts first ever Santacon

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica experienced its first ever Santa-con party on Varick St., Saturday.

The mass gathering of people dressed as Santa Claus and parading in the streets, while visiting bars around cities all over the world has finally made its way to the Mohawk Valley.

The goal of the event is to have a good time, while benefiting a good cause this holiday season as all proceeds from the event was donated to Mother Marianne's West Side Soup Kitchen.

"Santacon was wonderful because all these people get to come out, enjoy Utica, enjoy Varick Street," said Vicki Montalbano of the Soup Kitchen. "They enjoy having a good time while doing a good thing for the community."

Participants donated $5 for a beer at the brewery, and drink specials along Varick St. in order to benefit the cause.
