Utica man accused of burglary

(WKTV) - A Utica man faces charges in connection with a burglary in a home on Broad Street and Kossuth Avenue, Utica police said.

Earl Scofield, 40, of Catherine Street, is charged with burglary in the third degree and petit larceny.

According to officials, on Tuesday around 11 a.m., officers responded to a home on Broad Street and Kossuth Avenue for a possible burglary in progress.

Police surrounded the building and saw a door that had been forced open and heard movement inside the home. A short time later, a man walked out of the building.

After arresting the man, officers checked the building and in the basement found an open cold can of beer, a bag containing a torch and a saw stuck inside a metal pipe.
