Utica man accused of drug possession

(WKTV) - A Utica man faces charges after he was allegedly in possession of cocaine, Utica police said.

Shawn Vanetten, 44, of Proctor Boulevard, is charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, misdemeanor counts of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and a traffic summons.

According to officials, around 1 p.m. Saturday, an officer was on patrol near Herkimer Road when he saw a traffic violation. He pulled the car over and began to talk to the driver, who gave conflicting information. The officer learned the man had no driver's license and uncovered two plastic bags containing 2.2 grams of cocaine, police said.
