Utica man accused of neglecting disabled mother

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - A Utica man faces charges after he allegedly neglected his disabled mother, Utica police say.

Andrew Hillage, 25, of Jason Street was charged with endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person.

According to authorities, Hillage insisted on signing his mother out of a nursing home where she was being cared for. The woman had a stroke and is disabled and unable to care for herself.

Officials say Hillage started a relationship with a woman and began spending long periods of time away from his mother. The 62-year-old mother was left in her own feces and urine, police say. As a result, she suffered skin breakdown and open wounds, which lead to an infection to both her lower legs, a rash to her abdomen and hypothermia. She is in a critical care unit in a local hospital.
