Utica man charged in August 2011 burglary

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police use the DNA database to make an arrest in a burglary case from last summer. Officers responded to the NYS Canal System on Genesee Street last August for a report of a burglary. .

When officers arrived at the building, they found someone had broken in, stole electronics and broke into the vending machines. DNA was recovered at the scene and was sent to Albany for analysis. In February 2012, UPD was notified that there was a DNA "hit" in the database and a suspect was named. At that time the suspect, 31-year-old Kenneth Brunner, was in jail on a probation violation related to a previous sex offense. With the assistance of federal probation officers Brunner was taken into custody on Tueaday. Brunner is charged with burglary and petit larceny.
