Utica man charged with assault after allegedly dragging officer with an ATV

(WKTV) - A Utica man is charged with felony assault after police say he attempted to drag an officer with an all-terrain vehicle.

Zeffeire Hobbs, 23, of Utica is charged with assault in the second degree, a Class D felony, a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest and 14 traffic summons.

According to Utica Police, officers responded to a report Sunday evening of a man riding an ATV reckless in the roadway at Oneida Square. The caller who reported the incident said the man was doing wheelies in traffic.

After police arrived, an officer approached the man on the ATV and while talking to him, the man allegedly attempted to flee, dragging the officer with him and striking a pole. The suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of another officer. During the arrest, an officer received a shoulder injury.
