Utica man faces burglary charges after allegedly breaking into garage

(WKTV) - A Utica man is charged with a felony after he is accused of breaking into a garage on Tilden Avenue.

Paul Ward, 32, of Hubbell Street in Utica, was arrested Tuesday. He is charged with felony burglary in the third degree and a misdemeanor count of petit larceny.

According to officials, officers responded to a home on Tilden Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 on a report of a burglary. The homeowner said he came home to find someone in his garage and confronted the man, who fled in a vehicle.

After an investigation, the burglary unit identified a suspect. On Tuesday, an investigator observed the man in a car on Milgate Street. When officers attempted to stop the car, the suspect fled on foot. Officers were able to take him into custody.

Police note there have been similar instances in which tools, snow blowers and lawn mowers from sheds and garages. The investigation continues but citizens are asked to make sure garages and sheds are locked.
