Utica man faces charges in connection with July assault

(WKTV) - A 19-year-old Utica man faces two charges in connection with an assault in July, Utica Police said.

James Ware, 19, of Utica is charged with assault in the second degree and a misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of a weapon in connection with an attack on July 29.

According to police, a man approached a group of men who were next to his car in a parking lot on Hillcrest Avenue. The man recognized the group as the same people he believed had damaged several cars in the lot previously. The man told the group to leave his car alone. As he was walking away, he was struck in the back of the head, which knocked him down.

Investigators learned that the victim was struck in the head with a baseball bat and was hospitalized for several days while recovering from the injuries.
