Utica man faces felony charges in connection with domestic dispute

(WKTV) - A 51-year-old Utica man faces felony charges after police responded to a domestic dispute Sunday morning, officials said.

Jesus Acosta, 51, of Bennett Street in Utica is charged with a felony charges of menacing in the first degree, unlawful imprisonment in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. He is also charged with misdemeanor assault.

According to police, officers responded to a home on Bennett Street around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers spoke with a woman who told officers she and her husband got into an argument Saturday night. According to the woman, her husband slapped and punched her in the face. She also told officers he knocked her to the floor, where he placed his foot on her throat and threatened to kill her and himself.

According to police, she said she tried to flee the house several times, but he blocked her exit. She told police at one point she managed to get out on the house and stood on the front porch and attempted to yell for help. Her husband then allegedly dragged her back inside, where he held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill them both. He also allegedly put a BB gun to her face and hit her several times with a mop handle. The suspect eventually fell asleep and the woman was able to call police.
