Utica man remembered at benefit

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Nearly 200 people gathered Sunday to remember a local man who recently passed away after a battle with cancer.

Michael Scotellaro lost that battle on March 29th. Family member say he was very much looking forward to a benefit scheduled for this weekend. Family and friends decided to go ahead with the benefit and spent the day remembering Mike.

"Mike was definitely a man's man and a ladies man," said Nita Scotellaro, Mike's wife of more than 25 years. "He was fun to be around and very caring and very charismatic and a wonderful person to be with and a huge part of the community."

Scotellaro worked for Litchman's for more than 30 years. He also spent time as a local basketball coach and a referee. "If you met Mike for one time you were a friend and he would never forget you and you would walk away smiling," said Tony Nassar, a friend of Mike's for 30 years. "Mike had that effect on people."

The benefit was held at Daniele's Valley View Country Club in Utica. Several local businesses and organizations donated to the cause.

"I just want to thank everybody that came today," said Nita Scotellaro."Everybody that showed their love for Michael and people for caring for us. We're so appreciative."
