Utica man suffers minor injuries in New Hartford crash

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New Hartford Police Department reported that a Utica man suffered minor injuries in a two car crash on Route 8 in the Village of New Hartford, Sunday.

At approximately 12:20 a.m., John Bick, 46, of Utica was driving in the southbound lane of Rt. 8 near the Genesee St. overpass, when a vehicle driven by Kevin Kowiatek, 26, of Clayville struck his pickup truck from behind.

According to reports, Kowiatek was attempting to change lanes when the collision occurred, resulting in heavy damages to his car that came to rest in the passing lane.

Bick complained of minor back pain, but declined to be taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

Kowiatek was found to be operating his vehicle with a suspended license, and was issued tickets for following to closely, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, and failure to surrender a suspended license.

He will appear at New Hartford village court at a later date to answer the charges.
