Utica men arrested for possession of stolen handgun


UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica Police Department announced the arrest of two men after finding a loaded handgun during a traffic stop, Saturday.

According to officials, Terry Spratt, 38, and James Scheiss, 24, both of Utica, were stopped by police on Green Street.

When the officer approached the vehicle, Spratt, the driver, allegedly exited the car and threw an open beer can over the officer's head, then threw his keys to a friend who fled the scene.

Officers said that the gun recovered from the vehicle was reportedly stolen.

Spratt and Schiess are both being charged with criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of stolen property.

In addition, Spratt will face many more charges including resisting arrest and littering.
