Utica police remind residents to lock doors after wave of car larcenies

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Utica Police urge vigilance after cars in several locations in the city had items stolen out of them Sunday night and early Monday morning, police said.

Officers responded to several locations in the city for car doors being opened and rifled through. Items were stolen out of the cars. In addition to the instances in Utica, there were similar reports in New Hartford and Yorkville.

The following locations were targeted: Mather Avenue, Flagg Avenue, Ash Street, Oswego Street, Martin Street and Maple Street.

Police remind residents to not leave any valuable property in plain sight within your vehicle and to lock your car. As most car thieves target vehicles that are easy targets, cars that are locked with no visible property discourage would-be criminals.
