Utica sisters charged in connection with shoplifting from Macy's

(WKTV) - A pair of Utica sisters face charges in connection with a shoplifting incident at Macy's in Sangertown Square Mall, New Hartford Police said.

Maria M. Guillermo, 38, of Nichols Street in Utica and Belkis C. Guillermo, 37, of Jefferson Avenue, are charged with felony grand larceny in the fourth degree.

According to authorities, around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, an officer was on routine patrol at the mall when he saw a woman running from Macy's as a store employee chased her. The woman ran to a minivan with the side door open parked nearby. The van began to drive away from the mall as soon as the woman jumped in and turned onto Seneca Turnpike.

The officer was able to stop the van on Oakdale Avenue and found two women inside. Also in the van was numerous articles of clothes and shoes from Macy's, valuing $1,545.

The Guillermo sisters were issued appearance tickets returnable to New Hartford Court on March 25.
