Utica tower almost complete at Harbor Point

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Construction on the Utica tower at Harbor Point is near completion.

Utica native Frank Giotto, President of Fiber Instrument Sales designed the sign and funded the project, which is a 125 foot tower that will spell out the name "Utica" in lights on three sides of the tower in lights.

Planning on the tower began seven years ago and weather permitting, a crane a crane will soon lift the seven foot letters, fabricated at Utica Sign and Graphics.

"Coming down the thruway at night time with red LEDs in there, it's gonna' be awesome," said John Vella, co-owner of Utica Sign and Graphics. "Three elevations, plus there's going to be LEDs on the sides of the tower to light up, fake windows which are going to light up. It's really going to be colorful. It's gonna' be awesome."

In addition to the thruway, the plan is to have the tower visible from Routes 8, 12, 49, 5 and 5S.
