Utica woman accused of stealing from J.C. Penney's

(WKTV) - A Utica woman faces a grand larceny charge after she allegedly stole more than $2,000 worth of merchandise from J.C. Penney in Sangertown Square, New Hartford Police said.

Catherine D. Turnage, 35, is charged with felony grand larceny.

According to officials, police responded for a report of a shoplifter fighting with store security at J.C. Penney on Tuesday. When police arrived, they were told Turnage had taken numerous items from the store and when security stopped her, she began to scuffle with the security officers.

Turnage was found to be in possession of 25 bottles of perfume, which police say she had concealed in a backpack and inside her coat. She was also carrying seven jackets from the store. The value of the items Turnage allegedly attempted to steal valued $2,340.

She was sent to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or bond.
