Utica woman holding garage sale to benefit Oklahoma tornado victims

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Tiffany Young of Utica says she was horrified to see what happened in Oklahoma this week.

24 people were killed, including seven children at an elementary school when a massive tornado came through Moore, Oklahoma on Tuesday.

Young says ion Wednesday she realized the garage sale she was planning to hold this Memorial Day weekend would be the perfect opportunity for her to help those in need down in Oklahoma. She said, "We're well and able right here, so let's do a little something to help them."

Young says a friend of hers has family members who live right in Moore.

She says 100 percent of whatever she raises this weekend will be donated to the victims.

Jennifer Bostowick, who lives right next door to Tiffany on Mary Street in Utica says she is happy to help with the garage sale/bake sale and she is glad to see people here in Utica have compassion for those suffering 1500 miles away. She said, "I think it's an excellent idea. I just think more people should do what she's doing. It's better than nothing. It all adds up."

Because of the holiday weekend, Tiffany says she will be out there again both Sunday and Monday with more items and more baked goods. She said, "Rain or shine, I don't care, I will get wet, I want to raise some money and send it down there, because they really need it."

The garage/bake sale is being held at 1008 Mary Street in Utica.
