Utica man accused of having a stolen handgun

(WKTV) - A Utica man was arrested after he was allegedly found with a stolen handgun, Utica Police said.

Raymond Garrett, 18, of Square Street, is charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon, felony criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a firearm, which is a SAFE Act violation.

According to officials, around 2 p.m. on Monday uniformed police approached a man they thought was in possession of a handgun. When they approached, the man fled, leading officers on a foot chaise for several blocks. During the pursuit, police say the man reached into his waist band several times before he allegedly threw a black object on the ground. After officers arrested him, police found the object he discarded was allegedly a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun with 11 rounds. The gun was reported stolen in Oneonta.
