Val Bialas looks forward to midwinter break rush
UTICA. N.Y. (WKTV) - Children across the Mohawk Valley are enjoying Mid-Winter break this week.
One popular destination to enjoy the winter weather is Val Bialas Sports Center in Utica.
After the mild winter last year, workers at Val Bialas said its extremely important business is booming during the break this year.
President Mike Ford said the company was down 60 percent because of the lack of snow in 2012, but this year, business has been better but not as good as it was 2 years ago.
Ford said unless there is 5 to 6 inches of snow this week, the chairlift for skiers will not be open.
"The city doesn't have hydrants all the way to the top we can only make snow within a 2 mile foot radius of where the hydrants are," said Ford.
Snow will be made for children and adults to enjoy sledding, tubing, and the terrain park.
Val Bialas will be open from noon to 6 pm all week.
