UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The number of car thefts reported this year in Utica has already surpassed last year's total by 15 percent, and there are still three months to go in 2012.

If you've had something stolen from your car recently, you're not alone.

Law enforcement agencies across Central New York say that type of crime is on the rise.

Police are offering some pointers to keep your personal items safe.

They say you might want to think about keeping an outside light on at night.
