Vision 2020 Initiative unveils report

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Nano technology is the Mohawk Valley's future, but is the area ready?

In 2013, County Executive Anthony Picente created the Vision 2020 Initiative. A team of stakeholders from all over the country put together a strategic plan to make sure area residents are ready for the jobs in terms of education and the housing market is ready for those who move here.

"This area is a welcoming community," said Randy VanWagoner, president of Mohawk Valley Community College. "We have rich diversity and resources, but we have a lot of work to do to make sure our community is as inclusive as it needs to be to support and attract international companies that are part of the nanotech industry."

Of the work that's already been implement are internships at Quad C and the structuring of a Nano Workforce Advisory Board. The formation of that group is in progress.
