WESTERN, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Western man has been taken into custody after giving authorities chase when they recognized him as being wanted.

According to Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, Deputy G. Langheinrich observed Eddie Wilkes, 23, of Western, who was known to be wanted on an active arrest warrant out of Western Town Court, in the passenger seat of a car driven by Sarah Hildenbrandt, 29, of Western. Authorities said the car was headed in a southerly direction on Route 46 in the town of Western at about 8:45 a.m. Monday morning.

Deputy G. Langheinrich attempted to stop the vehicle and Wilkes jumped out and ran into the fields and across the Mohawk River, Sheriff Maciol said.

Deputy Langheinrich pursued Wilkes for about 20 minutes but lost him in the wooded area. The Sheriff's Office sent additional units to the area and about 2 p.m., Wilkes was found off Flintown Road in the Town of Ava, after a tip from a resident who spotted him in a vehicle.

Wilkes was taken into custody without incident and sent to the Oneida County Jail for a violation of probation warrant and the warrants out of Western for harassment and endangering the welfare that stemmed from a domestic incident back in August 2011.

During the search, authorities said some of Wilkes family and friends attempted to help him and pick up him up, but were located by Deputies. Sheriff Maciol said It was discovered that Wilkes' brother, Eric, of Taberg, was wanted in the Village of Camden for harassment and wanted in the City of Rome for assault.

Joe Dote, of Annsville, was wanted by the Village of Sylvan Beach for Criminal Mischief.

Both were taken into custody and turned over to other police agencies for arraignment.

Deputy Langheinrich also charged Sarah Hildenbrandt with aggravated unlicensed operation and obstruction of governmental administration along with other vehicle and traffic violations. She was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Western Court in November.
