Alabama governor announces Remington expansion

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Alabama Gov. Robert J. Bentley announced Monday that Remington Outdoor Co. will expand to Huntsville, Ala., and create more than 2,000 jobs in the next 10 years.

Bentley joined Remington Chairman and CEO George Kollitides and other state and local leaders for the official announcement.

At the announcement Monday, the governor said Alabama is a perfect fit for the gun manufacturer because of the state's commitment to business and economic development, as well as its conservative politics and unwavering support for the right to bear arms.

Bolstered by record sale, Remington chose to expand operations to Alabama.

"With the acquisition of this facility, we plan to create 2,000 jobs in Huntsville over the next decade," Kollitides said. "This additional capacity is essential to fulfill demand and introduce new products.

"Having watched our company grow from 2,400 employees in 2008 to 4,200 employees by the end of 2013 -- a five-year, 75 percent increase, it is easy to see why we're investing now," he said.

Remington Outdoor Co. has 19 locations in the United States, including in Ilion. The company is expected to begin operations in Alabama within the next 18 months.
