Waterville Central School District announces new Superintendent of Schools

WATERVILLE, N.Y. - The Waterville Central School District Board of Education announced the appointment of Charles G. Chafee as the new superintendent of schools at their meeting on Tuesday, April 3, 2012.

Chafee is currently the superintendent of schools of the Stockbridge Valley Central School District and will begin duties as superintendent for the Waterville Central School District on July 1, 2012, having been selected to replace Gary Lonczak, who will be retiring at the end of June.

"The Board is extremely excited and proud to have Charles Chafee as our new superintendent," said Board President Russell Stewart. After a comprehensive search with input from the community, staff and students, we chose a candidate that will continue our tradition of excellence in the Waterville Central School District."

Prior to being superintendent at Stockbridge Valley, Chafee was the high school principal in the Madison Central School District beginning in 2006. Previously, he served as the business education instructor and athletic director in the Mount Markham Central School District.

"I have long admired the quality of the programs and the people at Waterville Central School," said Chafee. "I was extremely impressed with the professionalism and thoroughness of the school board throughout the entire interview process. I cannot wait to join such an exceptional school system."

Chafee received a bachelor's degree in management science from the State University of New York at Geneseo, a master's degree in business economics from the State University of New York at Oneonta, a certificate of advanced study from SUNY Cortland and went through a superintendent development program at the State University of New York at Oswego.
