Westernville woman involved in one-car rollover

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - A Westernville woman escaped serious injury Monday after a one-vehicle rollover, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office said.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, Amanda E. Velzis, 27, of Westernville was driving a 2004 Jeep on State Route 46 near the Delta Dam in Rome when she lost control because of speed and slippery conditions. Velzis' Jeep overturned into a ditch, then caught fire. Two passers-by stopped to help Velzis get out of the car. She had no outward signs of physical injuries, but was taken via AmCare ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Velzis will appear in Rome City Court at a later date for a traffic citation. The Rome Fire Department, Ne York State Police and the Lake Delta Fire Department assisted on the scene.
