Whitesboro company has Christmas party for Rome children

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - More than 80 percent of the students at Gansevoort Elementary School in the City of Rome live in poverty.

So on Tuesday, TECT Power in Whitesboro gave them a holiday to remember. The company hosted kindergarten and first-grade students from that school to give them a special holiday celebration.

Santa made a guest appearance with some of his elves and the kids received gifts donated by the TECT employees as well as new boots and coats.

"One of our students saw a new coat, and he said 'This is my own new coat,'" said Summer Joblanski, a teacher at Gansevoort. "He was just hugging it. It means the world to them."

This was the fourth year TECT has hosted a holiday party for children.
