Officials find marijuana plants at Whitesboro fire

(WKTV) -  A fire Sunday evening in Whitesboro left firefighters with more than they bargained for after they discovered a marijuana grow operation on the second floor, Whitesboro police said.

The fire at 10 Linwood Place started just before 7 p.m. in the attic area. The fire chief said it appears to be electrical in nature. While fighting the fire, firefighters saw a marijuana growing operation on the second floor. Police seized a large quantity of plants, grow lights and other drug paraphernalia. Five long guns were also removed from the home.

Patrick J. Getz, 38, a tenant in the home was arrested and sent to the Oneida County Jail, officials say. He will be charged with criminal possession of marijuana, among other charges.

No one was injured in the blaze.
