Whitesboro man charged with DWI after Utica crash

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Whitesboro man has been charged with DWI after police say he ran a red light and crashed his vehicle into another.

According to Utica Police, officers responded to an accident at James Street and Steuben Street around 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday. Police said Russell Zakala, 30, of Whitesboro had passed a red light on Steuben Street and struck another vehicle that was traveling on James Street.

Officers conducted field sobriety tests and learned that Zakala had a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.15%. He was taken into custody and charged with DWI and traffic summons.

The case has been referred to the Oneida County DA's office for possible grand jury submission.
