Whittemore's sister testifies to father's abuse

(WKTV) - Clayton Whittemore's defense began Tuesday in a Monroe County courtroom.

Whittemore is accused of killing his girlfriend, Alexandra Kogut, in her SUNY Brockport dorm room in 2012.

Among those who testified Tuesday was Whittemore's sister Samantha, who cited examples of abuse committed by Whittemore's father. She testified their father would force them to eat if they didn't eat fast enough and that he once broke her nose.

A forensic psychiatrist also testified that the maltreatment Whittemore suffered was among the worse he has seen and that Whittemore's father was "sadistically abusive." He also testified that Whittemore qualified for a post-traumatic stress disorder diagnosis, and it wouldn't take much for him to snap.

Testimony will continue Wednesday. The prosecution announced Tuesday that eight rebuttal witnesses will be called.
