UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A woman walking along the sidewalk on Oneida Street Monday morning was struck by a person backing out of the driveway in their vehicle while talking on their cell phone, witnesses say.

It was shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday when witnesses say a woman was walking along the 1400 block of Oneida Street when she was struck by the car and was taken away via ambulance.

Utica Police say there were no serious injuries but added that the son of the woman struck slapped the owner of the car following the incident.

"She put her car in reverse and the woman was walking on the sidewalk and then, when she hit her from the back, she dragged her all the way to the middle of the road," said Aleasha Hayes, who said she witnessed the incident.

Police say no tickets have yet to be issued and the names of those involved have yet to be released.
