(WKTV) - A Broome County woman faces charges of promoting prison contraband after correctional officers say they found heroin on her during the booking process, officials say.

Samantha Elizabeth Rinker, 20, of Nivevah, faces a felony charge of promoting prison contraband in the first degree and a misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

According to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, Rinker was brought to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on Tuesday on bail on a petit larceny charge out of the City of Oneonta Court. During the booking process, correctional officers found a small quantity of heroin. She was arrested on that charge on Wednesday.

Rinker was arraigned by the Village of Cooperstown court. If convicted, she could serve up to seven years in prison.
