Woman accused of excessive corporal punishment to child

PORT LEYDEN, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Lewis County woman is facing charges after authorities say she used excessive corporal punishment on a child.

According to New York State Police, Shawna M. Ferris, 29, of Port Leyden has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

State police say that the charge stems from Ferris' excessive corporal punishment of a six year old. The investigation began after the child's babysitter noticed bruising on his face.

Ferris has been issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Village of Port Leyden Court on March 6.

Lewis County Child Protective Services is assisting with the investigation.
