World War II veteran, 92, finally receives medals

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - He earned the medals decades ago, and after a long wait, a Utica man finally received the awards.

John Allen, 92, received the medals he earned during a stint in the Army in World War II at a ceremony on Wednesday. U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna presented the Good Conduct Medal, as well as two other awards, to Allen, whose family was by his side.

Allen says the medals are worth the wait, but he didn't want them so much for himself.

"When I pass on, I am going to leave these for my children and great-grandchildren," Allen said. "That's what I want the medals leave them for my children and my great-grandchildren."
