Wyman named NYS “Deputy of the Year” posthumously

ALBANY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Fallen Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Kurt Wyman was awarded the prestigious “Deputy of the Year” award posthumously.

The award is presented by the New York State Sheriff’s Association annually. Sheriff Robert Maciol submitted the nomination to the NYS Sheriff’s Association and the association made the presentation at their annual conference held recently at the Desmond Hotel in Albany.

Accepting the posthumous award from the Sheriff’s Association was Lauren Wyman, the widow of Deputy Kurt Wyman, Kurt’s parents, and Lauren’s mom.

This prestigious award honors Deputy Wyman for the ultimate sacrifice he made in protecting the citizens of Oneida County. Maciol called Wyman a true hero who will never be forgotten.

Deputy Wyman was killed in the line of duty by Christian Patterson on June 7, 2011 in the Town of Augusta.
