Young girl injured in Adrean Terrace fire is improving
By JOLEEN FERRIS

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The girl whose lifeless body was pulled from the fire at her apartment building last week is continuing to improve at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, according to the Utica Fire Department.

Fire officials say four-year-old Halima Haji has been upgraded from critical to serious condition at the hospital and she is starting to speak again. Despite the progress, the girl will still need rehab as she is recovering from burns and smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out Friday evening at the Adrean Terrace Apartment building where Haji, her seven siblings and their parents lived.

The fire destroyed the apartment and all of the family's belongings. People in the community began calling the Utica Fire Department wondering how they could help out. Fire officials accepted donations for the family. Anyone interested in donating can contact the Utica Fire Department at 552 Bleecker Street, Utica, NY 13501.
