Zoo visitors take advantage of weather to snowshoe among the animals

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - The animals at the Utica Zoo get lonely in the winter months because people just don't visit as much as they do when the sun is shining.

However, on Wednesday, there was no lack of activity, as people took advantage of the reduced winter admission and the snowshoe rentals.

The executive director says for the most part, all of the equipment was spoken for. Patrons can walk the zoo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

"Our curator of education has been grooming and cutting our trail," said Andria Heath, executive director of the Utica Zoo. "We marked it, and it's strategically placed so you can see animals as you go up the north trek trail."

The snowshoes are $2.50 a pair to rent, or you can bring your own.
