Castro: I am not a monster

By WKTV News

CLEVELAND (AP) - Ariel Castro insists he's "not a monster."

Even as he apologized today to the three women he held captive and repeatedly raped for a decade in his home in Cleveland, he claimed that most of the sex was consensual and that the women were never tortured.

He blamed a sex addiction, his former wife, and even the FBI for not thoroughly investigating the abductions.

But the judge dismissed Castro's claim that the women lived a happy life with him. He sentenced Castro to life without parole plus 1,000 years.

One of the women, Michelle Knight, told the judge that she had spent "11 years in hell."
