Cuomo: NY state storm death toll now 30

By Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) - Governor Andrew Cuomo's office says the statewide death toll from superstorm Sandy is now 30.

The number is called "fluid" as reports come in from first responders. It rose minutes after Cuomo put the total at 26 in comments made during a New York City briefing Wednesday afternoon.

There are 22 deaths reported in New York City, four in Westchester County, two in Suffolk County on Long Island and one each in Ulster and Rockland counties.

The megastorm caused 13-foot storm surges in Manhattan. High winds toppled trees and caused widespread power outages throughout the region.
