NCAA tournament and workers on the job
By WKTV News
NEWS YOU CAN USE (WKTV) - The NCAA Tournament starts Tuesday. It's fun, but tense for both players and spectators.
19th ranked Syracuse University will start the final leg of its season Thursday on the West Coast.
But a brand new poll released this month finds "March Madness" has a huge impact on workplace productivity.
The poll conducted by Challenger, Gray and Christmas, Inc. finds that nearly 1/3 of workers will spend as much as three hours each day watching hoops.
The poll estimates that the almost month-long tournament will cost American companies a total of $134 million in lost wages, with almost 3 million workers watching.
Also, employers can expect possible slower Internet speeds as online streaming of the games is expected to zap networks' bandwidth.
