Obama applauds Yemen's leader on government reform

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is applauding Yemen's president for a "strong start" in introducing government reforms and helping combat terrorism.
   
Obama says President Abdo Rabby Mansour Hadi recognizes that terrorists not only create problems internationally, but hurt prosperity in Yemen. Obama was speaking after an Oval Office meeting with Hadi on Thursday.
   
Obama also says he is pleased Hadi is including women and young people in a transition to fully democratic government.
   
Obama says he has promised to work with the international community to help Yemen face economic challenges in its transitional period.
   
The White House says in a statement the two leaders have agreed to cooperate closely to return Yemeni detainees held at Guantanamo Bay. The White House says Hadi has promised to establish an extremist rehabilitation program.
