Cuomo intends to pass state budget before deadline
ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Regional State of the State and Budget Address was delivered in Rome on Friday at the Griffiss Institute in Rome.
Commissioner of the Office of General Services, Roann Destito, was in town to deliver the address. Destito presented a slide show to about a dozen community members, including Rome's Mayor Joe Fusco.
The Commissioner was outlining Governor Cuomo's priorities and educating the public about the provisions in his budget Cuomo says will move the state forward.
If the budget is passed before the April 1st deadline, that would make it the third year in a row Cuomo has been able to pass a budget on time. " The governor is very much focused on not only an on time budget but an early budget," said Destito. "I know that the budget negotations are occuring as we speak."
Destito says an on-time budget directly impacts New York State's economy. "I would say that Standard and Poors has upgraded our bond rating based on the fact that we've had on-time budgets and the governor has tackled some very difficult budgets and deficits so i think it's important that the electorate understand that this is how the state will move forward and how economic development is depending on it," said Destito.
