Lawmakers ban SUNY Oswego's annual bar crawl

By The Associated Press

OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) - Lawmakers in an upstate New York college town have banned an annual bar crawl after three students overdosed on heroin and two other people were hit by a trolley during the event.

Local media report that the Oswego Common Council voted unanimously Monday to ban the Bridge Street Run pub crawl.

The move came just days after three students enrolled at the State University of New York at Oswego overdosed on heroin. Officials say one of the students died on campus. Two others found off-campus were hospitalized.

A 22-year-old man from Suffern in Rockland County was hospitalized and a 21-year-old woman from Fairport suffered minor injuries when they were hit by a trolley during the event, held every year since the 1960s on the last Friday before final exams.
