Lawmakers call for federal, state aid for Mohawk Valley
HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - State lawmakers representing the Mohawk Valley are calling on the governor to formally request a federal disaster declaration for Herkimer County to assist with repair costs associated with flooding damage. Senator James Seward, Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney, and Assemblyman Marc Butler, and Assemblyman Brindisi, all reached out, sending letters to Governor Andrew Cuomo. Meantime, U.S. Representative Richard Hanna issued a statement regarding the serious floods. "Many communities in Central New York and the Southern Tier are coping with serious, ongoing flooding," he said. "I have been in touch with local, state and federal officials and am committed to working with these partners to ensure our communities receive the aid and assistance necessary to recover as quickly as possible." Several local municipal budgets were already tapped out due to flooding before the major rains that fell from June 27th - June 28th.
