SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - An executive with the state Thruway Authority and Canal Corp. has been named the next director of the New York State Fair. State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine says Thomas Ryan of Little Falls will replace Dan O'Hara as fair director as of Feb. 1. Ryan is chief of staff of the agencies that operate New York's Thruway and canal systems. Prior to joining the Thruway Authority, Ryan held administrative positions with the U.S. General Services Administration and the Federal Transit Administration. A former city editor for the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh, Ryan's earlier government service included stints working for the late New York Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan and former Gov. Mario Cuomo. O'Hara oversaw six state fairs starting in 2007, when he was appointed by then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer. (Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
